For William White of Casar, winning a $405,396 Cash 5 jackpot means he can get a new tractor.
“I always said if I win the lottery I’m going to get one,” White said.
And now he can after beating the odds of 1 in 749,398 in Monday’s drawing.
He plans to use his new tractor to grow tomatoes and okra on the 18 acres of farmland he owns.
“It didn’t feel real,” White said when he realized he had a winning ticket.
He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $280,737.
He bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Kountry Korner on N.C. 10 in Vale.
Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how more than $45.6 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Cleveland County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
