RALEIGH – Someone who played Powerball in a small coastal town won big in Saturday's drawing. Thanks to the addition of the $1 Power Play, what would have been a $1 million prize doubled to $2 million.
The lucky ticket was sold in Brunswick County at the Minuteman Food Mart on Beach Drive in Calabash. The ticket matched all five white balls drawn, beating odds of 1 in 11.7 million.
The winning numbers were 17-19-21-37-44 for the white balls and 16 for the red Powerball. A ticket sold in Tennessee matched all six numbers to win the $421 million jackpot.
The jackpot annuity for Wednesday's drawing is $40 million, worth $24.2 million cash.
Ticket sales make it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars a year for education. To discover how the funds support specific programs in every county, visit nclottery.com and click on the "For Education" page.
