For Travis Peterson of Mount Olive and his fiancé, a $200,000 lottery win means they can have their dream wedding.
“It feels wonderful to know we can do this,” Peterson said.
Peterson, a construction worker, was on his way home to feed his dogs when he decided to get the Fat Wallet scratch-off ticket.
When he realized he won, his hands started shaking.
“I stared at it and thought, ‘That’s not right,’” Peterson said.
But it was, and he claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in
Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $138,501. In addition to a dream wedding, Peterson hopes to use some of the money to start his own construction business.
He bought the $5 ticket at the Five Points Food Mart on U.S. 13 South in Goldsboro.
Fat Wallet launched in August with four top prizes of $100,000. One top prize remains.
Ticket sales from games like Fat Wallet made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how more than $57 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Wayne County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
