Marie Dykes of Pfafftown said it was “a blessing” to win a Carolina Cash 5 jackpot of $100,000.
Dykes’ win came on Tuesday, Nov. 1, the first night of the lottery’s Cash 5 $100K Days promotion. The jackpot had been won the night before and normally would have started again at $50,000.
But thanks to the promotion, the jackpot started at $100,000. Dykes’ $1 Quick Pick ticket, purchased at the Circle K on Norcross Road in Colfax, matched all five numbers to win the jackpot.
“It’s surreal to know it was me,” said Dykes as she collected her prize Friday at lottery headquarters. After federal and state taxes were withheld, she received a check for $69,250.
The Cash 5 $100K Days promotion continues through the Saturday, Dec. 10, Cash 5 drawing. The Cash 5 jackpot is North Carolina’s jackpot game. Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 749,398. Monday’s jackpot is $110,000.
Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Forsyth County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
