An Easter celebration turned into a $100,000 win for William Purvis of Jacksonville after he bought a winning Millionaire Bucks ticket.
Purvis, a Vietnam veteran, was visiting with his family Saturday when he decided to buy the ticket. He couldn’t believe his good luck when he scratched it.
“I sat back and kept saying, ‘This can’t be real there’s got to be something wrong.’” Purvis said.
He had to scan the ticket multiple times before it set in.
“I feel so blessed,” Purvis said. “Between my family and this, this is the icing on the cake.”
He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $69,256. He plans to use the money to pay bills.
Purvis bought the $20 ticket at the Kangaroo Express on Piney Green Road in Jacksonville.
Millionaire Bucks launched in January with three top prizes of $4 million, five prizes of $1 million, and eight prizes of $100,000. Three $4 million prizes, four $1 million prizes, and five $100,000 prizes remain.
Ticket sales from games like Millionaire Bucks made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
