Ali Imam of Greensboro has another reason to celebrate his family’s birthdays after they helped him win a $231,101 Cash 5 jackpot.
Imam chose his numbers using a combination of his wife and son’s birthdays. He said he’s been using the same numbers for the last six months.
He beat the odds of 1 in 749,398 to win Sunday’s drawing.
Imam claimed the jackpot Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $160,037.
He bought the $1 ticket at the Harris Teeter on West Market Street in Greensboro.
Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how almost $207.8 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Guilford County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
