A strategy of picking numbers turned lucky for Darryl Wilburn of Denver when he won a $387,254 Cash 5 jackpot.
On June 28, Wilburn bought a Quick Pick ticket at the Fairgrove Food Shop on North Highway 16 in Denver. On June 29, he bought a ticket using the same numbers and beat the odds of 1 in 749,398 to win the jackpot.
He claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he received $268,174.
Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how more than $28.07 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Lincoln County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
