RALEIGH – Josie Oliva, a deli worker from Smithfield, said winning a $1 million lottery instant prize means she will be able to buy her first home.
Oliva bought her lucky ticket in the $4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular Game at BJ’s Grocery on Rolesville Road in Wendell. She had a choice of receiving her prize as a $50,000 a year annuity over 20 years or as a lump sum payment of $600,000. She chose the lump sum and after the required tax withholdings received $415,506.
The $20 game has two $4 million top prizes still to be claimed and one additional $1 million prize.
Ticket sales from instant games help the lottery raise on average more than $1.6 million a day for education. To see how lottery funds have made a difference in every county in the state, visit the “For Education” page on the lottery’s website.
