For Aleta Turner of Connellys Springs, winning the top $200,000 Carolina Panthers prize means she will be able to fully recover after a fire destroyed her home.

Turner said the fire broke out two years ago in August 2014.

“We were asleep when it happened,” Turner said. “The electrical wiring caught fire and our pit bull woke us up.”

While she has a new home, she’s still trying to restore everything to where it was before. She said her good luck happened on the second anniversary of the fire.

“This is such a blessing,” Turner said. “It’s really going to help out a lot.”

Turner, a convenience store manager at a Corner Food Mart, bought the $5 ticket at the Jack B Quick on Old N.C. 10 in Icard. When Turner found out she won she couldn’t believe it.

“I started to cry,” she said.

She claimed her prize Friday. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $138,501.

The Carolina Panthers ticket launched earlier this month with three top prizes of $200,000. One top prize remains. In addition to a $200,000 top prize, players can enter their tickets into a second-chance drawing for a grand prize of 20 years of Panthers season tickets, a VIP game experience, and other prizes.
