RALEIGH – A Rocky Mount woman stopped at the store for potato chips and walked out with a lottery ticket worth $200,000.
Tamico White bought a $5 ticket for the Fat Wallet game at the L & L Food Store on Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount. But she didn’t realize she was a winner until she got home.
“I scratched it off and saw the zeroes,” White recalled. “I thought, maybe it’s $5,000. Then I said, ‘I just won $200,000!’”
White, a former child care worker and North Carolina native, said her after-tax winnings of $138,501 would allow her to buy her first home, buy a car and help her family.
“It’s just exciting,” she said. “It’s like a dream.”
White is the first player to win the top prize of $200,000 in the Fat Wallet game. Three top prizes remain to be claimed.
Ticket sales help the lottery raise on average $1.7 million a day for education. To see how lottery funds have made a difference in Nash County and every county in the state, visit the “For Education” page on the lottery’s website.
