For Woodrow Herring of Lincolnton, winning a $107,703 Cash 5 jackpot is a birthday present he never expected.
“I won the jackpot the day after my birthday,” Herring said. “It’s the best birthday present.”
When the trucking dock supervisor found out he beat the odds of 1 in 749,398 in Thursday’s drawing, he couldn’t believe it.
“I was so surprised I fell out of my chair,” Herring said.
He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $74,584. He plans to save the money.
He bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Country Club Market on Country Club Road in Lincolnton.
