Michael McNair of Spencer plans to build his dream home and pick out the perfect car with his $2 million Powerball win.
McNair was so excited he immediately called his mom to share the good news.
“I just won $1 million dollars.” McNair told his mom on the phone. “Oh wait. Hold on. I Power Played. I actually won $2 million dollars!”
He bought the lucky ticket at the J&K C Store on Concord Mills Boulevard in Concord.
“I let the computer pick my numbers,” McNair said. “I was at the right place at the right time.”
McNair claimed the prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholdings, he took home $1,390,020. McNair plans to build a custom home for his 9-year-old son and wife. He also intends to purchase a white BMW.
His ticket matched the numbers on the five white balls to win $1,000,000. Because he added the Power Play feature, the prize doubled to $2,000,000 when the 2X multiplier was drawn.
McNair’s $2 million prize was the only big win in the country in the Oct. 11 drawing.
Ticket sales from draw games like Powerball make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for the state. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
