Neil Barnett of Oxford in Granville County is the winner of a $4 million prize in the Ruby Red 7’s instant game.
Barnett, owner of Kearney Grocery on U.S. 401 North in Louisburg, bought the ticket at the store that he owns. He had a choice of taking an annuity of $200,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum of $2.4 million. He chose the lump sum and after state and federal tax withholdings received $1,668,030.
Ticket sales from games like Ruby Red 7’s made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million dollars for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Granville County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
