Nieve Caballero of Roanoke Rapids is the latest person to claim a $1 million prize in the Ruby Red 7’s game.
Caballero said her godmother gave her the ticket. The $20 ticket was purchased at Bobby’s Grocery on Bolling Road in Roanoke Rapids.
Caballero, accompanied by her godmother, claimed the prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. She had the choice of taking a $1 million annuity that has 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum and after federal and state tax withholdings received $417,012.
Ruby Red 7’s launched in June with three top prizes of $4 million and four prizes of $1 million. One $4 million prize and one $1 million prize remains.
Ticket sales from games like Ruby Red 7’s made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Halifax County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
