Rafael Cadavid of Cary is the first player to win a $200,000 top prize playing the new 20X The Cash scratch-off game.
Cadavid’s good fortune happened when he stopped at the Circle K on North Harrison Avenue in Cary.
“I had won $10 on another ticket,” said Cadavid, who does IT for an insurance company. “So I decided to exchange the ticket for two 20X The Cash tickets.”
That decision turned out to be a lucky one.
“When I saw I matched the ‘23’ and saw the $200,000 by it, I was in shock,” Cadavid said. “I didn’t believe it until I went back to the store to scan the ticket.”
Cadavid claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $139,003. He plans to use the money to make repairs around his house.
20X The Cash launched in February with five top prizes of $200,000. Four top prizes remain.
Ticket sales from games like 20X The Cash made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Wake County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
