James Wilson of Morganton is the second player to claim one of two winning tickets for a $326,084 Cash 5 jackpot.
Wilson, who bought the $1 ticket at the Salem Express on Salem Road in Morganton, beat the odds of 1 in 749,398 to match all five numbers in the March 27 drawing. He split the jackpot and received $163,042.
He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, Marshall took home $113,316.
The other half was won by Danny Marshall of Wake County, who collected his prize in March. He bought his lucky ticket at the Mira Mart on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.
Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Burke County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
