Kelly Canestrare of Charlotte got the week off to a good start Monday by claiming a $590,477 Cash 5 jackpot.
Canestrare, who bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Friendly Mart on East Seventh Street in Charlotte, beat odds of 1 in 749,398 to match all five numbers in the May 2 drawing.
After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $410,387.
Cash 5 drawings are held every night. Jackpots start at $50,000 and grow until they are won. Monday’s jackpot is an estimated $144,000.
Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Mecklenburg County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
