Gary Stadler of Chapel Hill will collect an extra $50,000 a year for the next 20 years after he won a $1 million lottery prize.
Stadler bought a winning $1,000,000 Bonus Cash scratch-off ticket at the Quality Mart on Walnut Street in Cary.
He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He had the choice of taking a $1 million annuity that has 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. Stadler chose the annuity and received his first payment of $50,000. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $34,753.
The $10 game launched in July 2016 with four top prizes of $1 million. Since Stadler won the last top prize, the lottery will begin steps to end the game.
Ticket sales from games like $1,000,000 Bonus Cash made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Orange County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
