RALEIGH – Helen Rhone of Wadesboro said she’s going to enjoy a better retirement after she won a $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot.
The retired hospital inspector was at home when she discovered that she beat the odds of one in 749,398 to match all five numbers in the July 17 drawing.
“I was ecstatic,” Rhone said. “I could’ve jumped through the ceiling.”
She bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at Tim’s Convenience Store on East Caswell Street in Wadesboro.
Rhone claimed her prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholdings, she received a check for $76,451. She plans to save the money.
Tonight’s drawing has an estimated top prize of $518,000. This month, the jackpot for Cash 5 starts at $100,000, up from $50,000, due to the Cash 5 $100K Days promotion.
Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Anson County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
