Paul Butlak of Mount Holly beat the odds of 1 in 11.7 million to win a $1 million prize in the Aug. 19 Powerball drawing.
Butlak bought the $2 ticket at the Sam’s Mart on N.C. 74 East in Indian Trail. He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $695,010.
The jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing has reached $115 million, with an estimated lump sum of $74.1 million.
Ticket sales from draw games like Powerball made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million for the state last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in your county, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
