Joseph Britt of Supply is celebrating after he won $150,000 playing Powerball.
Britt beat odds of one in 913,129 to win the prize in Wednesday’s drawing.
His good fortune happened after he stopped at the Minuteman Food Mart on Holden Beach Road in Shallotte and bought a Powerball ticket.
The ticket matched the numbers on the four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000. Because Britt added the $1 Power Play feature, the prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier was drawn.
He claimed the prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholdings, he took home $104,252.
Ticket sales from draw games like Powerball make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for the state. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
