Robinson Sibayan of Fletcher will be able to get his dream home after he won a $132,809 Cash 5 jackpot.
“My wife and I have wanted our own home for a long time,” Sibayan said. “This means we finally have enough for a down payment. We want to get a home with three bedrooms, two baths, and a two-car garage.”
Sibayan’s good luck happened when he stopped by Sonny’s Package Inc. on Hendersonville Road in Fletcher and bought a ticket for Saturday’s drawing.
“I used my own numbers,” Sibayan said. “I had actually won $25 on a scratch-off ticket that same day and decided to use the numbers from that ticket on my Cash 5 slip.”
Sibayan checked his numbers early the next morning. He matched all five, beating odds of one in 749,398, to win the jackpot.
“I woke my wife up and asked her if she had to work on Monday. She asked, ‘Why?’ and I told her, ‘We’re going to Raleigh, I just won the lottery.’ She didn’t believe me and went back to sleep.”
Sibayan and his wife made the trip to Raleigh and claimed the prize at lottery headquarters. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $93,633.
Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million dollars a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
