Gerald Crunkleton of Hudson plans to take his family on a beach vacation after he won a $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot.
“This will be the first time the family’s all gotten together in almost seven years,” Crunkleton said. “We’ll bring my son and his kids, and my daughter and her kids. It’s going to be wonderful!”
Crunkleton bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Hudson Superette on Main Street in Hudson. The ticket beat odds of one in 749,398 to win the Feb. 18 drawing. Crunkleton didn’t check the ticket for two days.
“The ticket was just lying on the kitchen table that whole time,” Crunkleton said. “I saw it Tuesday morning after the drawing and asked my wife to check it. She did, and we just about fell down from shock.”
Crunkleton claimed the prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $77,552.
Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million dollars a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
