Vincent Gardner of Fletcher said he’s still at a loss for words after he won $100,000 playing the 100X The Cash scratch-off game.
His good luck happened when he bought the $20 ticket at the Market Center on Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville.
“When I saw all of the zeros I gasped,” Gardner said. “I was flabbergasted!”
The food worker claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $70,507. He plans to use some of the money to pay bills.
The $20 ticket launched in February with three $4 million prizes, six $1 million prizes, and six $100,000 prizes. Two $4 million prizes, four $1 million prizes, and four $100,000 prizes remain.
Ticket sales from games like 100X The Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million dollars a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in Henderson County, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
