John Clark of Raeford is the first person to win a $200,000 top prize in the new Carolina Cash scratch-off game.
The Hoke County man bought the lucky $5 ticket at the Muncheez Express on Fayetteville Road in Raeford.
He claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,003.
Carolina Cash launched on Tuesday with three top prizes of $200,000. Two top prizes remain to be claimed.
Any winning and non-winning Carolina Cash tickets can also be entered into the lottery’s Player’s Club for a chance to win a N.C. Dream Vacation package. The second-chance winners can choose one of five different vacation packages.
Ticket sales from instant games like Carolina Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for education.
