Tammie Bullock-Perry of Henderson says winning a $100,000 Powerball prize just makes her feel “lucky.”
Bullock-Perry said she buys a ticket for most Powerball drawings and usually spends an extra $1 to Power Play.
Her Quick Pick ticket, bought at Cruizers on U.S. 1 and N.C. 158 in Middleburg, matched four of the white balls and the red Powerball in Wednesday’s drawing for a $50,000 win. When the 2X multiplier was picked, her Power Play ticket doubled the win.
She said she couldn’t believe that she had won $100,000 until she got to lottery headquarters late Thursday afternoon and got her win confirmed. “It feels lucky,” she said. “It is lucky.”
Her good luck beat odds of 1 in 913,129, making her the biggest winner in North Carolina in the drawing. After state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $70,502.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot has topped $200 million, climbing to $203 million as an annuity, or $121.2 million cash.
Ticket sales from draw games such as Powerball make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
