Betty Wilson of Asheville won the top prize of $1 million in the new $1,000,000 Back Scratch game.
Wilson’s lucky ticket came from the Road Runner on Smokey Park Highway in Asheville. She had the choice of taking a $1 million annuity that has 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum. After federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $423,009.
The $1,000,000 Back Scratch game began this month with five top prizes of $1 million. Four remain to be claimed. Tickets in the Back Scratch family range from $1 to $10 and offer top prizes from $10,000 to $1 million. If a player turns any of the tickets over, they’ll find up to five more chances to win.
