James Lyle of Pinehurst said he plans to use his $200,000 lottery win to make his wife’s dream of owning a Jeep come true.
“It still feels like we’re newlyweds,” Lyle said. “I’m going to buy her the car of her dreams.”
Lyle’s good fortune started when he stopped at the Parade on Macon Street on East Macon Street in Warrenton. While he was there, he bought the new Monopoly Frenzy! scratch-off ticket.
“I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the numbers,” Lyle said. “I couldn’t believe it. I started shaking I was so excited.”
Lyle claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,003.
Every First Tuesday of the month the lottery launches new scratch-off games. Lyle is the first player to win a top prize since the $5 game launched earlier this week. Three $200,000 prizes remain.
Ticket sales from games like Monopoly Frenzy! make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
