Alicia Mattox of Statesville is celebrating after she won a $277,777 lottery prize.
Mattox’s good fortune happened when she stopped at Yogi Food on Wilkesboro Highway in Statesville and bought a “777” scratch-off ticket.
Mattox claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $196,529.
The $5 ticket launched in July with two top prizes of $277,777. Since Mattox won the last top prize, the lottery will take steps to end the game.
Ticket sales from games like “777” make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $10.4 million in money raised by the lottery made a difference in Iredell County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
