Aaron Hill of Norfolk, Va., tried his luck Wednesday in the Carolina Cash 5 game and ended up winning half of that night’s jackpot, $218,869.
Hill’s ticket was one of two that matched all five numbers in the drawing. He bought his Quick Pick ticket at The Border Station on Caratoke Highway in Moyock.
Hill claimed his prize Thursday and after federal and state tax withholdings he took home $154,850.
The other half of the jackpot went to Michael Kovacs of Charlotte, who used his own special numbers that he had played for 15 years, first in New Jersey and then in North Carolina.
Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website. The jackpot for Friday’s drawing is $110,000.
Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have helped all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website. https://www.nclottery.com.
