Ethan Gupton of Louisburg didn’t find a turkey while hunting Monday morning, but took two shots at winning a big lottery prize at lunch and bagged a $100,000 win.
Gupton said his good luck occurred when he and his best friend took a break for lunch at Edward Best Grocery and Grill on N.C. 56 East. While there, Gupton bought two $20 tickets of his favorite game, $150 Million Cash Explosion.
Gupton said he had no luck on the first ticket but on the second found a prize big enough to get a “Big Check” to mount on his wall.
“I just felt like, Oh my God, is this real,” said Gupton. “I said, ‘Troy, Get in the truck and take me to Raleigh.’”
The two drove straight from lunch to lottery headquarters. After required state and federal tax withholdings, Gupton took home $70,756. He said he planned to use the money to get his contractor’s license.
Gupton became the third player to win one of the 10 $100,000 prizes in the game since it started in October. Three $4 million prizes, four $1 million prizes, and seven $100,000 prizes remain to be won.
Ticket sales from games like $150 Million Cash Explosion make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $3.4 million in lottery funds made a difference in Franklin County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
