Jackson Morgan of Randleman and Shelia McDonald of Sophia are starting their week on a high note after winning $1 million playing the Lucky No.7 scratch-off game.
The Randolph County friends bought the lucky $10 ticket at Charles Place on South Main Street in Randleman.
They claimed their prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. They had a choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years, or a lump sum of $600,000. Morgan and McDonald chose to split the lump sum and after tax withholdings, each took home a check for $212,251.
Lucky No. 7 launched in April of last year with six top prizes of $1 million. One top prize remains to be claimed.
Ticket sales from instant games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $8.7 million in lottery funds made a difference in Randolph County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
