William Jaworovich of Raleigh is feeling good after winning Sunday’s $647,755 Cash 5 jackpot.
“I kept checking the ticket just to make sure I was really seeing what I was seeing,” said Jaworovich, 75.
He purchased the lucky $1 Quick Pick at the Food Lion on Falls River Avenue in Raleigh.
“I only play Cash 5,” said Jaworovich. “And I only play Quick Pick. I think if it’s meant to happen, it’ll happen.”
He claimed his prize on Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state withholdings, he took home $458,287. Jaworovich plans to use his winnings to pay off his mortgage and take care of bills.
“I don’t need a fancy car or anything like that,” said Jaworovich. “This will just make life easier. It’ll be nice to spend more time doing the things I like to do. I’m probably going to go golfing right after this!”
Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers and through Online Play on the lottery’s website. The jackpot for Tuesday’s Cash 5 drawing is $110,000.
Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $65 million in lottery funds made a difference in Wake County last year, visit the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
