Mark Van Sciver of Cary won half of a $302,930 jackpot in Saturday’s Carolina Cash 5 drawing.
Van Sciver had one of two lucky tickets that beat odds of 1 in 962,598 to match all five numbers in the drawing. He bought the lucky ticket, using personal numbers, at the Stop N Go on Old Apex Road in Cary.
Van Sciver claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholding, he took home $107,162.
The second half of the jackpot went to Denine Gatling of Cove City in Craven County, who also used her own numbers. The ticket was purchased at the S&A Mini Mart on N.C. 55 West near Cove City.
Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers and through Online Play on the lottery’s website. Monday’s jackpot is $110,000.
Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $65 million in lottery funds made a difference in Wake County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
