A new Powerball promotion that starts today, July 1, will give 20 North Carolinians a trip to “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” and a chance to be the first Powerball millionaire in 2020.
That chance comes for winners of two second-chance drawings who win a three-night trip to New York City for an exclusive New Year’s Eve party. The special drawing to win $1 million and be the first Powerball Millionaire of the Year occurs on Jan. 1, 2020, just after midnight, during ABC’s live broadcast of the New Year’s Eve show, starring Ryan Seacrest.
“One thing that lotteries can do is create exciting once-in-a-lifetime experiences,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “A trip to New York City for a New Year’s Eve party in Times Square is a great experience. We hope one of the North Carolina winners who makes that trip will be the first Powerball millionaire in 2020.”
To qualify for the drawings, Powerball players must purchase a Powerball ticket valued at $10 or more on a single ticket between July 1 and Aug. 31. Then, enter the Lucke-Rewards code at nclottery.com. When qualifying tickets are purchased through the lottery’s Online Play system, players are automatically entered into the drawing.
North Carolina will be one of 25 lotteries participating in the promotion. In all, 302 trips will be won. Players in North Carolina can win 20 of those trips, 10 each in two drawings. The deadline to enter the first drawing, scheduled for Aug. 7, is July 31. The deadline to enter the second drawing, scheduled for Sept. 4, is Sept. 2.
The trip packages include:
• Round-trip airfare
• Hotel accommodations and meals
• Exclusive New Year’s Eve party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, offering prime viewing of the Times Square ball drop
• A holiday dinner cruise on the Hudson River, tickets to the “Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes” at Radio City Music Hall, and $1,000 in spending money.
Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets cost $2 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website. Wednesday’s jackpot is a $150 million annuity or $99.2 million cash.
