Gary Harris of Columbia tried his luck with the $1,000,000 Win It All scratch-off and scored a $1 million top prize.
Harris bought his lucky $10 ticket at the Food Lion on U.S. 64 East in Columbia.
He claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He had a choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of $50,000 a year over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum, and after federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $424,503.
Harris won the last of four top prizes in the $1,000,000 Win It All game. Since all top prizes have been claimed, the lottery will begin steps to end the game.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how money raised by the lottery made a difference in all North Carolina counties last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
