Charlotte Ann Jones’ good luck won her the first $150,000 Extreme Cashword top prize.
Jones, of Hendersonville, purchased her lucky $5 ticket from Mr. Pete’s Market on Asheville Highway in Hendersonville.
She claimed her prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $106,126.
Extreme Cashword launched this month with three top prizes of $150,000. Two top prizes remain to be won.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $725 million a year for education. For details on how $5.3 million made a difference in Henderson County in 2019, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
