Retirement just got better for William Jordan of Fayetteville and his wife after they won a $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot.

Jordan said the couple plan to put their winnings aside for retirement.

“My wife purchased the ticket,” said Jordan. “Normally, we’re together but she was by herself that day.”

She bought their Quick Pick ticket from the Family Fare on Rowan Street in Fayetteville for Friday’s drawing.

Jordan claimed the prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $77,828.

Cash 5 tickets are $1 with drawings held every night. Tuesday’s jackpot is $148,000. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 962,598.

Cash 5, like Powerball, is one of four lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets through Online Play either through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $21.9 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Cumberland County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
