Elizabeth Smith of Lowell tied her luck on a $5 scratch-off and bagged a $200,000 top prize.
Smith stopped at the Kingsway on West Garrison Boulevard in Gastonia for her lucky Double Cash Doubler ticket.
“When I saw that $200,000 I started going crazy,” Smith said.
Smith claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $141,501. Smith said she plans on buying a home for her family.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $13.4 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Gaston County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
