Renea Bresee of Rougemont became the first person to win a $200,000 top prize on a new scratch-off ticket.
Bresee’s win came in the Ruby Mine 9X game that started in June. She bought her lucky $5 ticket at the Fast Stop on Durham Road in Roxboro.
She claimed her prize on Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $141,501.
The Ruby Mine 9X game started with four top prizes of $200,000. Three remain to be won.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $725 million per year for education. For details on how $12.8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Durham County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
