Jerome Conley of Fletcher tried his luck on a $25 scratch-off and found himself the winner of a $100,000 prize.

Conley bought the Extreme Cash ticket at Hyder’s Kountry Kubbard on Boylston Highway in Mills River. He claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $70,757.

Ticket sales from scratch-offs make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education.
