Mauricio Rebollar of Clayton took a chance on a $10 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million prize.
Rebollar bought his Big Cash Payout ticket from the Eagles Express on Knightdale Boulevard in Knightdale.
Rebollar claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He chose the annuity option so he will receive $50,000 a year for 20 years. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $35,508 on his first $50,000 payment.
The Big Cash Payout game launched in December with four top prizes of $1 million. Two $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.
Ticket sales from scratch-offs make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million a year for education. For details on how $13.9 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Johnston County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
