Alberto Lopez of Laurel Springs took a chance on a $5 scratch-off ticket and won a $250,000 prize.
Lopez bought his lucky 20X The Cash ticket from The Corner Market on U.S. 221 North in Jefferson. He arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to collect his prize and, after tax withholdings, took home $162,525.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how money raised by the lottery made a difference in Alleghany County in 2021, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
