This weekend both Mega Millions and Powerball offer North Carolinians the chance to end the Thanksgiving holiday weekend by winning jackpots of more than $300 million.
The first chance comes with a Black Friday night Mega Millions jackpot that now stands at a $308 million annuity that is worth $142.1 million in cash. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.
The second chance occurs Saturday night with a bigger Powerball jackpot that weighs in at $340 million as an annuity or $156.5 million cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
“North Carolina has been winning million dollar prizes this past week,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “Let’s hope that the next big win for North Carolina is a jackpot.”
Three $1 million wins have just occurred, including:
• A $1 million Mega Millions prize won last Friday with a ticket purchased in Greensboro.
• A $1 million Powerball prize won Saturday and claimed this week by a Tyrrell County man.
• A $1 million Powerball prize won Wednesday with a ticket purchased in Harnett County.
Powerball and Mega Millions are two of six draw games in North Carolina where players can buy their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Lottery players now can either buy scratch-offs at a retail location or play digital instants games on the website at nclottery.com and on the app.
Ticket sales from draw games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $2.8 million a day on average for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
