Harris Callicutt of High Point and Angela Weeks of Archdale tried their luck on a $5 scratch-off and won the first $250,000 prize in a new lottery scratch-off game.
They bought the lucky 20X The Cash ticket from Express Mart on North Main Street in Archdale.
They arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim their winnings. Both players received $125,000 after splitting the $250,000 prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, each player took home $89,063.
The 20X The Cash game debuted this month with four top prizes of $250,000. Three $250,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise $2.5 million a day on average for education. For details on how $33 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Guilford County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
