Charles Javins of Fayetteville now has the chance to make a career change thanks to a $100,000 win.
“I’m using this money to kind of springboard me out of that business altogether,” said Javins, a retail store manager, “and get back into the automotive industry. I was a service manager at one time. So, I’d like to get back to that.”
He took a chance on a $30 ticket he bought at the 7-Eleven on West Franklin Avenue in Gastonia, scratched it and realized it was a winner.
Javins claimed his prize Monday, and after required federal and state tax withholdings took home $71,259.
“I don’t have too much need for anything else but I did want to change careers. I want to send my parents on a vacation too. Those were the two important things.” The rest, he says he will put into savings.
200X The Cash launched in March 2022 with six $5 million top prizes and 18 $100,000. Three $5 million top prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be won.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise an average of $2.5 million a day for education. For details on how $23 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Cumberland County in 2022, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
