Avid golfer Jack Romans Jr. of Calabash said he already has a plan for his first purchase after winning a $100,000 scratch-off prize.
“I’m going to get a new set of irons,” Romans said.
He bought his lucky $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe ticket from RM Mart on Seaside Road Southwest in Sunset Beach.
“I guess I was just in the right place at the right time,” Romans said.
Romans said he appreciates the timing of his big win.
“It’s my birthday in a week,” he said. “This is a nice early birthday present.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,506.
In addition to golf clubs, Romans said he plans to pay some bills with his winnings.
The $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe game debuted in December with four $2 million top prizes and eight $100,000 prizes. Three $2 million prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
