Haywood County man celebrates $273,471 Cash 5 win

John Stiles of Clyde tried his luck on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and won a $273,471 jackpot.

Stiles bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket from Samir’s on Wiggins Road in Candler. His ticket matched all five numbers to win the jackpot in the Sept. 20 drawing. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

Stiles claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Friday in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $194,848.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Friday’s jackpot is $620,000.

Ok, y'all are killing me with all these high jackpots. Look,cash5 is now 1.1 million, possibly going higher before tonight's drawing. PB 49 million, MM now is 69 million. When it's higher jackpot amounts, I spend more, trying to win. But what I get are all loser. I need one good win, then I can live debt free. All these years playing, can't win nothing. I mean the small stuff, i win, but not the big stuff. Where are my lucky stars? I see winners on here everyday, read their posts, and frankly, it makes me sick to my stomach! Oh, glad that somebody can win, but not I. These higher jackpot, are killing me, putting out so much money. I could quit playing, but, I do have special numbers, I must play, but if I did stopped playing, surely they will come out. So I'm stuck now, got to keep them going. My rant is over!
