Wilson County woman bags $1 million scratch-off win

Janet Johnson of Wilson took a chance on a $25 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million top prize.

Johnson bought her lucky Extreme Cash ticket from the 7-Eleven on Airport Boulevard West in Wilson.

When Johnson arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $429,007.

Since Johnson won the last top prize in the Extreme Cash game, the lottery will begin the process of ending the game.

A $15 million grant, using money raised by the lottery, helped Wilson County Schools build the Wilson Academy of Applied Technology. For more details on how money raised by the lottery made a difference in Wilson County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.

Congrats! @NCEL since both $25 dollar tickets have ended is there a plan for a new $25 with starting prizes at $50 not $40 even though that was good if you won on first one. I tried this ticket at every store in my area and nothing big always the $40. My day coming soon!NC Lottery
