Play Smart™ helps you make the most of your lottery play. Each holiday season, Play Smart Gift Smart reminds you that lottery tickets are for adults, not kids!

Our holiday scratch-offs are perfect last-minute gifts and stocking stuffers, for the adults in your life. For adults, lottery tickets have the potential to keep giving. For anyone under 18, lottery tickets have the potential to introduce unnecessary risk.

You can Gift Smart by:

Only giving lottery tickets to the adults in your life
Helping us keep lottery tickets away from anyone under age 18— even already scratched tickets.
Sharing the risks with others in your life by encouraging others to keep lottery tickets away from kids.

Some people who developed a gambling problem later in life report their first experience came when they were only 9 to 11 years old. Research shows that those who develop a problem gambling report that that an adult – a parent or family member – gave them their first lottery ticket.

We encourage you to join us in preventing lottery tickets from ending up in the hands of minors.

This year, we plan to expand our Play Smart Gift Smart effort with a special promotion to support a school supply drive for education groups all across our state. Stay tuned for more info soon. Remember to Play Smart, Gift Smart this holiday season because the lottery is not a kid’s game.

I can never forget my special day from NC Lottery! I just graduated college with an associates degree in applied science business management. I kept seeing them beautiful extreme cash($25) scratch off tickets everywhere! I said I am destined to get one when I get some extra money! Well, I came across a school check for graduation and I spent $25 on ONE EXTREME CASH TICKET! I was rewarded $5,000!!! Yes, it was worth waiting patiently for.And I knew what money came in before that couldn't afford to "chance" a $25 ticket. I haven't been so fortunate enough lately to play any scratch offs at all. I did take my $10 rewarded fetch prepaid visa and deposited it on my account, and yes I played the online digital games but lost like $5 ASAP. So I switched over and took the rest of my chances on Mega, Powerball, and Cash 5. May we all see blessings here at the holiday's.NC Lottery

I agree lottery is for adults and not for all adults. If you know someone struggling with finances a lottery ticket is not a good gift. Even a small win could cause them to expand their chances and lose a lot more.
